MY JOURNEY AT SCAD SO FAR – POOJA KAMBLE

I am pursuing an MA in Interactive Design and Game Development at SCAD. As I was new to this field, SCAD added some additional subjects to my course to help me catch up with the basics. I am majoring in Game Design. Both the technical and design aspects are taught according to student requirements.

If you find that any subject is not relevant to your desired major, there are options to switch that subject with another. My program focuses on the design aspect, and even if you are a newbie to a particular software or topic, it is taught from the basics.

I have been at SCAD for a year now, and I have learned so much about my field. So far, my experience at SCAD has been awesome. I have learned to translate my ideas into my work. The professors guide us through the methods by which we can refine our projects. The assignments are thoroughly checked, from camera work to the quality of materials and functionality used. As I am from an engineering background, ‘interactive game design and development’ was a completely new area for me. But, with the help of the professors at SCAD, I have gained a lot of knowledge. I also enjoy the library at SCAD as it has a wide variety of books of all kinds. I am looking forward to learning more while I finish the rest of my program at SCAD.

In every aspect, I think SCAD is awesome. The staff is great, and for any project, we first must show rough sketches and the flow of our ideas. In each class, we present our work, receive critiques from students and professors, and learn to improve our projects. SCAD provides every facility needed, from industry professionals to expert guidance for our portfolio presentations. My course is ITGM (Interactive Design and Game Development), and our department is open 24/7. All the necessary software is provided for free, allowing us to work anytime as per our convenience.

I highly recommend first-time masters students to attend SCAD. The university not only provides scholarships but also offers part-time working opportunities. There is also a program called SCADPro where students can work on ongoing industry projects with companies like BMW, Apple, Disney, and Samsung for a quarter. Additionally, there are SCADamp courses that teach various skills such as effective communication and presentation to make us market ready. Every friday, SCAD hosts events like portfolio reviews from industry experts or information sessions with officials of various companies. Overall, SCAD strives to provide maximum opportunities to connect with the industry and keeps students updated with the latest advancements.

Finally, I am very grateful to Creative Aspirations for guiding me through my entire application process including portfolio development. I tried 2-3 agencies in India for the study abroad process in the field of Game Design, but none of them knew much about it. Then I came across Creative Aspirations, and it was a turning point in my life. I had lost all hope; but, after contacting Creative Aspirations, they guided me from scratch.

Coming from an engineering background, I didn’t know what the portfolio requirements were for college. They helped me build my portfolio. I never met them in person as I was not from Hyderabad where they are based. My contact with them was solely via phone. Trusting them with everything was the best decision I ever made.

They introduced me to SCAD and prepared me for everything I needed. I am so grateful to them because I don’t think I would have been at SCAD without their help.
